Vivian's Story

Vivian Elston believes that good public service begins with listening. She understands that the strongest solutions come from learning about the experiences of the people who live, work, and raise their families in the community.

Before entering public service, Vivian worked in finance and operations, helping organizations solve problems, improve processes, and better serve their clients. Throughout her career, she learned the importance of accountability, thoughtful decision-making, and finding practical solutions to complex challenges.

Her passion for better understanding the issues affecting individuals, families, and communities led her to return to college later in life, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology with a minor in Human Services, graduating summa cum laude from the University of South Carolina-Beaufort (USCB). Through her studies, she explored issues related to education, families, foster care, juvenile justice, and the ways public institutions shape opportunities for people across South Carolina.

Those experiences strengthened Vivian's belief that lasting progress comes from listening before taking action. While people may not agree on every issue, they often share common goals, such as strong schools, economic opportunity, access to essential services, responsible government, and the opportunity to build stable, thriving lives.

As a candidate for the South Carolina House of Representatives, Vivian is committed to bringing people together, listening to different perspectives, and advocating for practical, responsible solutions that strengthen families, expand opportunity, and help communities thrive.

In her spare time, Vivian enjoys researching social issues, reading historical nonfiction, cooking, traveling, and spending time with her family.
